Great song that Rza chose to sample here, sung by the greatly overlooked Southern soul vocalist Wendy Rene, who was signed to Stax Records. Enjoy!
This is a 2011 interview, but Meth definitely wanted to dispel the rumor that he’s high all the time and clearly states that he doesn’t solely want to be associated with weed. Totally understandable. I just realized that the baby Meth was holding in the “C.R.E.A.M.” video is probably finished with college by now. The last thing his kid wants to hear is weed jokes about his dad by the water cooler at work. Anyway, Meth is one of the best emcees of his generation and he should be known for that more than he should be known as someone who smokes a lot of weed.
Ghostface and live band BadBadNotGood are a very, very good combo on their 60s soul-inspired collabo album, “Sour Soul.” Do your ears a favor and cop this indie Lex Records release right here.
Stellar cameos from potent lyricists like Elzhi and MF Doom round out the album (in addition to a psychedelic Danny Brown guest spot). The record also features extended hypnotic instrumental grooves.
My only complaint is that “Tone’s Rap” and the opening verse of “Mind Playing Tricks” took it too far with the misogyny, but this is the man who brought us “Wildflower,” after all.
Raekwon has joined the ever-growing list of performers slated to appear during the music showcase portion of this year’s SXSW, March-17-22 in Austin TX.
Rza will serve as one of three keynote speakers at the film showcase portion of this year’s SXSW (another keynote speaker is film director Ava Duvernay, who directed “Selma,” in addition to directing acclaimed indies “Middle of Nowhere” and “I Will Follow“). Rza’s directorial debut “Man With The Iron Fist” should already be in your film collection. If not, cop it here.
Raekwon dropped by Kay Slay’s “Street Sweeper Radio” show on Shade 45 to premiere his latest single “Wall To Wall” (featuring French Montana), from his upcoming album “FILA.”
Troy Ave has been bubbling locally in NYC for several years now. Raekwon and Ghost have decided to help his movement by hopping onto the “All About The Money” remix, which can be streamed above.
U-God hooks up with Harlem underground rap vets Cannibal Ox (and The Artifacts) for Can Ox’s latest single “Blade: the Art of Ox.” If you never bought the Cannibal Ox album “The Cold Vein,” you need to cop that here. This track can be found on the long-awaited Cannibal Ox reunion album “Blade of the Ronin,” on sale here.
“Blade: The Art of Ox” can be copped here.
Not sure who uploaded the whole “Season of Love” movie onto Youtube, but there it is, for your viewing pleasure, Meth’s latest film role. Check it out above.
