I’m super late posting this video, but Meth absolutely massacres the closing verse. I’m assuming everyone reading this has already copped “The Meth Lab” album on Tommy Boy, right? If not, it makes a great X-Mas gift. Here’s some reading material to go with it, in print or as an e-book.
Ghostface wound up explaining the lyrics to “Mighty Healthy” in this interview with fellow Staten Island native/”Sons of Anarchy” actor Theo Rossi and it was pretty awesome. Who knew he worked an ODB shoutout in there?
I haven’t heard the original, but this is a pretty strong remix. According to the credits in the video’s Youtube page, “[t]he original track, along with another remix by High Klassified (Fools Gold Records), is embedded in a limited edition Boombot REX speaker and is now available through www.Boombotix.com and Zumiez stores.”
What do you think of the track?
Raekwon reflects on 1995 – The Year of the Purple Tape – and shares his thoughts on hip-hop today, in the video interview above.

Basically, a crafty defense lawyer has dredged up an unsubstantiated account in an old FBI file that Rza and Raekwon ordered the murder of the victim his clients are accused of hiring someone to murder, before they could (i.e. the novel “My clients didn’t do it, those rappers did” defense, to raise reasonable doubt). I don’t think the feds have ever failed to pursue a criminal prosecution against a hip-hop artist where they had a shred of evidence, so I give little credence to the claim of this informant (the actual shooter) that Rza and Raekwon were involved in the murder of this man (“Boo Boo”).
Erick Sermon made the great coaching decision of putting Method Man and Redman on his team (as guest emcees) for his lead single “Clutch” [from his latest solo album, “E.S.P. (Erick Sermon’s Perception)” which just dropped this week, so cop that]. Readers of my book on Wu-Tang who peruse the footnotes will notice detailed discussion on how the Wu was patterned after the Hit Squad, which Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith assembled in the early 90s.

Marvel has continued its recent tradition of paying homage to classic hip-hop album covers with a recent one dedicated to the cover of Raekwon and Ghostface’s “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx,” for an upcoming issue of The Hulk.

To add the finishing touches to his upcoming Dark Matter album, Gza has teamed with renown classical composer Vangelis (who created the score for acclaimed films like Blade Runner and Chariots of Fire).
This happened a little while ago, but it’s still great viewing, watching Gza break down how hip-hop introduced him to science, if you’ve never seen it. Gza’s physics-themed album, Dark Matter, is close to completion.
